Well here we are in the years— this was the story from 24 years ago, dateline Washington DC in a different time— the one and only appearance of Automatic Baby, Larry and Adam of U2 with Mike and Michael of R.E.M. A late-night idea, an afternoon run-through with borrowed guitars, making sure it was viable, then they were announced without reference to their day jobs . . . a fun and memorable time at the first and only MTV Inaugural Ball. Tabitha, Judy, Tom, Jeff, John, Alex— that was some good fun! (And Michael singing with Natalie Merchant and 10,000 Maniacs was pretty fun too!)
